Abbey Ale

This is a fairly sweet, easy to drink Trappist (Belgian single) ale.

2014

Steeped grains at 165F for 30 minutes Sparged grain bag in 1 gal of water @165F, added to brew pot. OG: 1.060 @78*F = 1.063 (.005 above calculated).

Some of the ingredients were selected due to availability at the LHBS.

This beer costed right at $45 to brew (not including water, gas, etc).

This is meant to be a little on the sweeter side. The hops and grains should have a little bit of spice to them.

This will spend approx 2 wks in the primary (bucket) at approx 74*F. I don’t expect to need to use a secondary. It will be allowed 3 wks in the keg, refrigerated, to condition before drinking.

2016 (Jan 10)

On a cold and snowy day, there’s nothing better to do than make another batch of this beer.

This time around, the grains were steeped at 155-160*F for about 45 min.  I simply let the grain bag drain drip back into the pot.

Brewing on the stove

The boil was approximately 4.5 gallons. I used my normal outdoor brew pot on the gas stove this time around.
