The 2nd place winner at the 2015 Brewfest, this is a tasty beer! This beer is bold. It starts sweet, hits with a bold malt flavor with hints of fruit and ends with a slight dryness due to the ABV, although it is not excessively dry. It hides the ABV well. Almost too well. Be careful drinking this one.
2016 – July 2:
Time to try this one again.
I made a nice, big, 1L starter for this brew. This allowed me to use just 1 vial of yeast.
Will the recipe calls for candy sugar in the rock crystal state, the local homebrew store sold only pouches of liquid sugar. It was only after the addition of the sugar that I noticed the very high water content of these pouches. The result was an OG much lower than desired.
One slight hitch, the air lock blew off during fermentation. What a mess. There was a LOT of yeast lost, but fermentation continued. We’ll see how this impacts the FG.
