Baby Boy on the Way!

It sure is different being pregnant the second time around.  Difference #1: this is my first post about the pregnancy, and it’s coming in at about 24 weeks (and I didn’t even finish it until 31 weeks).  I’m not even 100% sure that’s where we are with this bambino.  Here’s the quick rundown of what I do know:

  1. This one is a boy, and he is baking along just fine.
  2. He is due 2/22.
  3. No name.
  4. Yes, I am feeling fine…..now.  Had many a queasy night during the first trimester, but no actual sickness.
  5. And yes, everyone is right that it is totally different when you are chasing a toddler rather than napping the days away, but Dad was outstanding helping cover during those irresistible, impromptu naps.
  6. Now that I am well into the second trimester, my non-maternity clothes are a distant memory and my bump is rising faster than in the past.
  7. I felt this one move around 16 or 17 weeks, but this one is more chill than Hailey was.  This is the first week I’ve been able to see my belly jiggle, and Dad has yet to feel anything. This boy’s active time is around 10am, so I’m just not always around Dan at this time for him to check out the party in my belly.

Hailey seems to be on board with a baby on the way, but I’m not sure what she really thinks is going to happen.  It’s been interesting to see her response along the way.

Right away–even before  was showing or we had said anything to her–she got really clingy and day care drop offs were tough.  That is about when her teachers starting hinting that Hailey is due for a little brother or sister.  I thought the timing was such a coincidence, but later learned that these ladies claim to always know when a baby is on the way because that’s when the toddlers get clingy.  They were absolutely right.  Same is true of my hair stylist.  She knew right away and says the stylist is always one of the first to know.

Once we got over the clingy hump, Hailey seems to really care about “Mommy’s baby.”  She knows that Mommy’s baby is her baby brother and sometimes she will hug the bump and kiss it good night. The first time she did this, she completely melted my heart. And sometimes she will bonk her head into the bump–Ouch!–or otherwise kind of lash out at it/me.  Not sure if that is about the bump or about me, but it’s rare.  Hailey’s a bit feisty and has her moments when it comes to hitting and biting, so this really is not shocking.

Hailey is always interested in babies at day care and out and about.  She gets upset when they cry, so we talk about babies and crying often enough.  Hailey is also really into her baby dolls and can often be spotted putting them to “night night” with a blanket. She likes to feed them with a bottle too.  So I’m hoping this mean I’ll have a good little helper when the baby arrives.

We’re working on outfitting Hailey with a big girl room so we can move baby brother into the nursery.  Currently, however, her room is full of piles as we sort through our belongings and move into our new basement.

Can’t believe this one is over half way baked.  Seems like a blur.  I’m sure the big birth day will be here before we know it with the holidays on the way and busy times at work.  I have been pretty anxious about the idea of having two little ones, which might by part of the reason I’ve not focused on this pregnancy as much.  However, I am getting excited about a baby and boy at that. I’m becoming more at ease with the anxiety of having two.  2015 will sure be an exciting year for the Harts with Baby Boy on the way and a Kratohwil/Bundy wedding in the fall!
