So Sam didn’t really have surgery on May 12 as we had hoped he would. The poor kid had an on-and-off fever for the 48 hours prior, and unfortunately the fever was on that morning. Turned out he had Roseola. Final decision to cancel didn’t come until about 6am the morning of surgery, so Grandma CeCe had already flown into town and Dan and I already had planned to be home from work. Sam was legitimately sick, so we all stayed home as we digested the disappointment. Hailey and CeCe had some fun adventures, we sipped wine midday, and Dan made the best pot roast on the face of the planet. Sam improved (until the overnight scream sessions, but that’s in the past now).
Friday came and we got a new surgery date in August (much farther out than we had hoped). My reaction was to start brainstorming other options–switch to unilateral, switch surgeons–but in the end, I decided to have peace that this is just out of my control. We are #1 on the cancellation list with our surgeon, and we are grateful for that. (It took a few more days for me to get there mentally, just to be real with ya’ll.)
So anyway, on Friday, I learned Sam had Roseola (virus with fever + rash that is very common), and that you just have to wait it out. So off we went to the park with CeCe and Hailey. Why not. Sam loved it, and I’m sure the fresh air was good for everyone. Uncle Chris and Gramps were both in town by dinner, so we had a nice pizza night back at the house. Saturday was a laid back day around the house and then out to dinner to celebrate CeCe’s birthday, Mother’s Day, and Father’s Day.
The grandparents took of Sunday morning, and the Hart’s finished out the long weekend by gardening all day. Dan was on veggie duty and I was on flower duty. All in all, it ended up being a weekend full of some quality family time.
