Call it boredom, call it trying to keep the wife happy, call it what you like but it seems every time that Elaine goes away for a weekend, I end up taking on several projects.
I expected this weekend to be the same, but it’s been off to a slow start. Friday night was spent working on this website. When I originally built this site, I knew very little about CSS and formatting. And although I had the site looking decent, there was a lot of hacked together code. Eventually, I want this site to be more of a web application for Elaine and I to use (grocery lists, notes, etc), and that means it has to be mobile browser friendly. With that and my perfectionist attitude, I set out to correct the formatting of the page. I spent about 4 hours studying up on the latest in CCS and completely rebuilding the template for this site, but I think I have it cleaned up to where I can call it good. Next up is building a style sheet to be used with mobile browsers. Maybe on a different weekend.
Sat has seen more of the same. It’s cold out. That doesn’t bode well for me doing anything outside. So, today has been filled with more geek time. I’ve played around with some of the php coding of the site. Added a random picture generator for the front page (now I need to find a way to make it easy for Elaine to upload picts), fixed some sloppy coding, etc. Our wordpress blog is now integrated into the table of contents for the site. A little ajax magic prevents it from holding up the entire page from loading (wordpress can be slow). And since I was logged into the laptop on Linux, I took the time to transfer the couple of gigabytes of photos and videos on this computer over to our file sever. Hopefully tomorrow is warmer and I can get out in the garage.
