We have survived our first two weeks of parenthood. Thank you to our families for making the drive down and helping us stock the fridge and install the shed. (I’ll leave it to Dan to post on that topic.
Here is a brief rundown of these two weeks from a tired mama.
- Hailey had gained 5 oz. in less than a week. Way ahead of schedule for a newborn. We are doing well breastfeeding. Next up is to adopt some semblance of a schedule.
- Hailey has grown out of her newborn clothes with footies. She is just too leggy. We are debating whether those are soccer legs or dancing legs. Maybe both!
- This week, Hailey learned to grunt. She’s added several grunts to her vocab of coos and crying.
- Eddie is not sure what to make of Hailey. He is pretty good, but he gets excited when she makes a lot of noise.
- Thankfully, I am able to walk Hailey and Eddie at once, so we’ved enjoyed getting back out into the neighborhood. We made it 2 miles today, which is the first time I’ve hit that distance in a while. I love not having to pee every 3o minutes.
- Hailey does well when we sponge bathe her. Can’t wait for real baths when her cord crusty falls off.
- Dan calls dirty diapers “daddy bombs” and has done a great job changing her and loving her.
- Hailey’s nicknames so far: Squirmy Wormy, Tree Froggy Baby, Hay-Bug, Hay-Hay, HaLo (for HAiley LOrraine), Stretchy Baby. When she’s awake, she’s a Waky Baby as opposed to a Sleepy Baby.
- She has just figured out how to stretch her arms and legs out at the same time, which she seems to do at the most random times.
- Hailey’s first outing was a trip to Home Depot with Dad and then a quick appearance at Target. Today, Hailey and I made a trip to Meijer without any sort of fuss.
- Mom and Dad are surviving the new sleep schedule, but we’re not good at going to bed early yet.
Thanks for all the visits and phone calls along the way! We love introducing her to all our loved ones.
