Hailey’s first trip to the sushi restaurant.

It has been just over 9 long months since Elaine and I have been out to a sushi restaurant for dinner.  Due to the (slight) risk to the baby from consuming raw food or anything that had been prepared around raw food, I (Dan) essential banned sushi from our diet until Hailey was born.  Now that she is here, it was time for Mommy and Daddy (and Godmother Burzy) to indulge.

We thought that we might get lucky and have Hailey sleep through the entire event.  Which if we had been seated in 15 minutes as was initially promised by the restaurant and not closer to the hour we actually waited, that might have been true.  But, given the circumstances, Hailey decided she was going to wake up and take part in the evening out.

The first attempt was to take Hailey out to the truck.  As Elaine quickly realized, there is not enough room in the cab of a truck to do everything you need to do to take care of a baby.  But she made it through it.

When it was time for a second go around, Elaine decided to join the ranks of mothers-who-breast-feed-in-public.  While it was initially a little cumbersome, and required the assistance of everyone at the table, Elaine managed to pull it off gracefully and without flashing anyone one.

Where’s the baby???

Oh!! There’s the baby!!

Time for some sushi!

A little Daddy time after feeding the baby.

All in all, it was a successful night out and gave us confidence that it is possible to have a nice dinner out as parents.  And we got to feed our craving for sushi.
