We are so thankful for the many blessings this year has brought for our family. It goes without saying that we are thankful for the arrival and health of our first child. We cannot express just how much we love her and love our new life with her. Despite a big bump in the road, we are blessed to have a healthy family with plenty of grandparent love for Hailey. We are blessed to have developing careers and steady work (and a nice maternity leave for me and vacation for Dan), and a sturdy roof over our heads in a peaceful part of the world. And of course, we are thankful for all of our friends and family both near and far. After moving around a couple times and growing through different phases of life, it is amazing how many of you we have kept in touch with. We value all that you bring to our life.
To celebrate all of this, we hosted Dan’s parents for Thanksgiving this year. And let me just say that we amazed ourselves by pulling it off! Since we enjoyed a traditional Thanksgiving meal with the Harts a couple weeks ago, we decided to try something different. So we made it a very Kentucky Thanksgiving. This meant lots of bourbon: bourbon sweet potatoes (best sweet potatoes ever!), bourbon apple cake, derby pie, and bourbon balls. And we had horseradish mashed potatoes, since you can’t have a Kentucky Thanksgiving without horses. Dan fried a delicious turkey. What a feast. We earned a parenting merit badge for successfully putting on Thanksgiving.
Hailey did a great job sleeping through the meal. Dan picked her up and brought her to the table as we said grace before the meal, and then she let us eat in peace.
Happy Thanksgiving!
